Canal System Land Use is Topic of Public Forum

Thursday, April 25th in Albany:

Land use along the New York State canal system will be the subject of a
public forum April 25th in Albany hosted by the State Council on Waterways.

The vast system of canals that covers Upstate New York has long been
known for its scenic beauty. The Erie, Oswego, Cayuga & Seneca and Champlain
Canals wind through some of the most spectacular vistas in the Empire State.
But who is monitoring changes in land use along this 624-mile recreational
resource that might alter this attractiveness forever? Can needed canal
development be targeted in ways that will preserve pristine wilderness
areas?

Speakers from the State Canal Corporation, NYS Department of State, the
Preservation League of New York, local leaders and canal users will address
responsibilities for developing and protecting land along the canal, as well
as policy issues that impact its future.

The forum will be held at the Hudson Harbor Restaurant, 351 Broadway in
Downtown Albany on Thursday, April 25th at 2:00PM.

The State Council on Waterways is a private, a not-for-profit advocacy
group formed in 1986, dedicated to revitalizing, preserving and promoting
New
York's waterways. This program is part of a series of statewide SCOW
sponsored informational forums on important waterway issues.  They are free
and open to the public.
